hi, hello, howdy.

I like to keep things simple and clean.

My name is Ash and I'm 29 years old. I live in Austin, Texas with my husband and three cat children. I have the vocabulary of a sailor.

Oh, and I pterodactyl screech a lot.

My Story

Let me break the bad news first: I am not an expert with any musical background.

While not a special technical genius or musical prodigy like some famous reactors or commenters, I am a well-experienced fan. I started enjoying kpop and jpop in 2003, when I was in middle school and after some traumatic experiences. Back then, the only way western fans could listen comfortably to eastern music was YouTube, which was so very new (bless the grainy music videos we could get our hands on), and artists like Super Junior, DBSK, SE7EN, BoA, and Rain were new to the scene. Buying jewel case CDs was a battle, but we still did our best!

It didn't take long for it to be considered dumb and nerdy for western girls to like asian music and anime, so I hid it for a long time and from a good 98% of my friends. As I got older, I hid it from 100% of my friends, and continued to love my favorite music in silence.

Now, it's been a few years, and I frankly do not give a single fuck if anyone thinks it's weird that I love eastern music. Friends I hid this music from in the past are upset that they didn't have access to it sooner. I listen to it pretty much exclusively at this point, I'm learning Korean, and I'm happy.

This blog is the perspective of an adult who grew up in the west, loving music from the east, and who is an average fan; I'm just like you!
